During February 2024,with the financial support of the organizations CRTA and Trag, we organized a free interactive seminar for middle school students from Belgrade, on the topic of cultural heritage in our capital. The goal was to introduce younger generations to the local excavations that have taken place in the past twenty years, such as those in Tadeusa Košćuška Street, at the site of the Rajićeva shopping center, on Kosančićev Venac, in the park next to the National Assembly... Thus, we wanted to bring them closer to the archaeological heritage, which is disappearing ever more quickly due to urbanisation.

The first part of the seminar took place on the premises of the National Museum of Serbia, where the participants listened to various lectures over 5 days.

There were stories about the past, present, and future of the archeological site in Vinča, about the Celtic and Roman inhabitants of Singidunum, about how cultural heritage arises and disappears, the problems archaeologists face in the field, and many other topics.

The lectures were given by experts from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade and Novi Sad, the National Museum of Serbia, the Museum of the City of Belgrade, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments in Nis, the BioSense Institute, as well as from the organizations Europa Nostra and the UNESCO Chair for Cultural Heritage.

The second part of the project involves mentoring work with workshop attendees. During March, members of the Neozoik team will visit the locations discussed at the seminar together with them, research the history, and record educational videos about them, which will then be posted on our social media platforms.

The entire process will be directed by high school students, who will try to bring cultural heritage closer to their peers in this creative way!
